Common problems associated with couplings is the wear of the male or female halve or misalignment.

Belzona allows two methods of repair by a) machining or b) forming. The choice of method will be dependent on whether one or both halves of the coupling are damaged. If only one half is damaged, it may be rebuilt by using the undamaged half as a former. If both halves are damaged, one half would be rebuilt using a machining method and then used to reform the other half.

Preparation: All damaged areas are to be roughened by; a) undercutting the damaged area and rough grinding using hand held cutting/grinding machines. B) Undercutting the damaged area, leaving a rough thread pattern using machining methods. C) Undercutting the damaged area and grit blasting to give a surface finish of Sa2 ½ (near white metal finish) ensuring a minimum 3 mil. (75 micron) profile using an angular abrasive.

In all cases the periphery of the repair area should be undercut to provide a square shoulder or dovetailed rebate at the extent of the damaged area.

Any formers used should be treated with a minimum of 2 coats of Belzona 9411 (Release Agent).

All areas to be repaired should then be thoroughly cleaned with Belzona 9111 (Cleaner/Degreaser).

Perform the repair using either the Machining Method or the Forming Technique and allow the product to fully cure, before dismantling the components in order to carry out the final dressing procedure using emery cloth or hand tools.

We have a multitude of videos showing how to perform many of these types of repairs on YouTube.

Please let us know how we can help you repair, protect and improve your equipment.
